Text description provided by the architects. Along the A28 in Assen, the new highway support center has been completed. Contractor Geveke finished its work on the various buildings for Rijkswaterstaat and the province of Drenthe.
The storage for the salt was built up with concrete floors and walls, a big umbrella like wooden roof keeps the salt dry. Next to that, various technical and storage facilities are combined in 2 long wooden, green covered, roofs one for every party.
At the crosspoint of these roofs, workspaces and a canteen find a combined use for all.
The trees that were originally cut on site, are recycled into columns for the wood construction, the rest of the wood structure is from locally grown forests, designed in such a way that treatment is not necessary.
Solar panels on the roofs provide energy not only for the new buildings but also for the adjacent office building.
